New Teacher Information

Welcome to the RMS New Teacher Technology Page

Essential RCS/RMS Programs
What are my responsibilities regarding technology at my school and with RCS?
  • Click here for RCS Policies: Please read carefully. You are responsible for your awareness of these district policies.
    • **Make sure you do not allow students to use computers in which you are logged in --- they will be able to access your email directly and if they go to inappropriate sites, it will show on your history.
  • Substitutes will have a substitute login Students may continue to work on projects on computer, but you must leave a back-up plan for the sub in case of technical issues on the student devices (i.e. WiFi issues, students forgetting their password, etc.)
    • It is best-practice not to leave technology-based lesson plans for a substitute to have to manage.Network/technology issues happen frequently/ students have login issues/new students arrive without ability to login. You would need to have a solid, technology-free back up plan in place.
    • Subs can use a student device to connect to the projector so they can show morning announcements to students. You will need to leave instructions and also leave the name of a teacher next to you that can assist the sub with this task.
  • Please secure technology items over school breaks (student devices are left in place, turned on, and logged out, but on the login screen to capture updates).
  • MUTE projector when not in use during the day; turn off projector at end of day
  • Ensure copyright laws are followed (includes software downloads and music).
Student Devices
  • Classrooms1:1 student/device ratio.
  • Mrs. Johnson, our Media Specialist, handles device inventory and checkout. ([email protected])
  • Teachers are responsible for ensuring all devices are taken care of by students and they are accounted for daily.
  • Student devices need to be SIGNED OUT and LEFT POWERED ON and placed in the charging stations at the end of the day so they can capture all the overnight updates.
  • Most technical issues with the laptops can be fixed if the student restarts the device.
  • Most login issues are typos or the student has forgotten part of their username/password or are mistyping it.
  • It is recommended that the students click RESTART at the end of each class period to sign off ---this will sign them out and pull up a fresh login screen for the next class.
  • If there are technical issues with the student devices, please send the device to Mrs. Johnson in the library with a sticky note quickly explaining the issue.

What do I need to with technology equipment do during school breaks?
Student devices will need to remain SIGNED OUT and LEFT POWERED ON and placed in the charging stations.
Ensure you either take your teacher laptop with you or is securely locked up in your desk or cabinet.
