Welcome to Mrs. Straughter's STEM Class 

STEM education teaches students how to solve problems by using their critical thinking skills. By engaging in STEM learning experiences, students learn how to examine problems and then create a plan to solve them.

STEM Classroom Rules and Procedures 

It’s a privilege to have you in class for this quarter. The information below details the import information about class.  

Course Overview: In this STEM course, students will explore the exciting world of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics through a combination of hands-on projects, interactive activities, and real-world applications. The class aims to cultivate curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking skills while nurturing a passion for STEM subjects. 

Course Objectives: 

  • Introduce students to fundamental STEM concepts and principles. 
  • Develop problem-solving and analytical skills through hands-on projects. 
  • Promote teamwork and effective communication in a collaborative learning environment. 
  • Foster creativity and innovative thinking in approaching STEM challenges. 
  • Encourage an understanding of the practical applications of STEM in everyday life. 
  • Build resilience while problem solving. 

Supplies needed:   

  • Writing utensils (pencils, pens, highlighters). 
  • A folder to be left and class,( it will be returned at the end of the quarter) 

Classroom Expectations: 

  1. Listen and follow directions. 
  1. Respect your peers, other’s opinions, ideas, and personal space. 
  1. Active participation and engagement in class activities. 
  1. Be prepared for class and punctual. 
  1. Taking care of classroom materials and equipment. 
  1. Using all classroom tools appropriately and safely.  
  1. Willingness to learn from mistakes and ask for help when needed 
  1. No cellphones out without permission. Consequences for cell phones will follow school policy.  

 

Grading: Grades are divided into 3 categories. The specific criteria for individual projects and assignments will be explained to students beforehand. 

  • 15% Professionalism: This is based off students’ ability to follow class expectations. (Listen carefully to instructions, staying on task, leaving their areas clean and organized during projects.)  
  • 35% Reflections: These are completed at the end of projects for students to reflect on what they have learned from the activities 
  • 50% Assignments: This includes other assignments (projects, quiz, test, etc). 

 

Consequences: The school discipline policy will be followed.
