8C Writing Focus

Welcome!

Dear Raven Parent and Student,

I want to welcome you to 8th-grade Writing Focus at Rockvale Middle School, and I am honored to have you in my class during your final year of middle school. As you set your sights on the future, I am excited to play a small part in your development as a writer, critical thinker, and 21st-century learner. During my M.Ed. and Ed.D. studies, I have written numerous essays and a 165-page dissertation, so I am aware of the effort required to write. I have made and still make mistakes in my writing, so I do not expect you to write perfectly. We will grow together throughout this year, and I want to emphasize this growth. Once you read my grading policies, you will realize that—to me—growth is more important than grades. However, I do realize the satisfaction of receiving excellent grades, and I believe that if you do your best and grow, exemplary grades will follow.
